Cells act within a surrounding system
A tumour exists alongside other cells, physical structures, and chemical signals. The location of a surviving cell and the conditions around it can influence its behaviour and response to an intervention. [M09]
Location affects the research question
A result in an isolated cell culture may not capture the conditions at an infiltrative tumour margin. Research models therefore need to be chosen for the question being asked and for the aspects of the disease they can represent.
Treatment exposure adds another question: does an active intervention reach the relevant cells for long enough to produce the intended effect? Delivery considerations become meaningful when connected to a specific candidate and a measurable exposure requirement.
What matters to NEUVIOR
Our programme connects survivor biology with normal neural function and the practical conditions of intervention. We want a useful model to show more than cell loss. It should help explain the response of the system in which those cells exist.
