Use energy well whilst protecting the process

PHARMORIS-ECO is a feasibility programme investigating energy optimisation in fixed pharmaceutical manufacturing chilling and freezing.

The research asks where predictive modelling and auditable optimisation could improve operation under the conditions a process must maintain. The starting point is the equipment, its duty, and the quality constraints that define acceptable performance.

01

Compare with a strong existing approach

Predictive control needs to justify the extra information and complexity it introduces. We therefore compare it with credible static and rules-based controls, including well-tuned operation of the existing system.

The comparison considers energy use, temperature behaviour, equipment state, and the practical demands of monitoring and maintaining a different approach.

02

Understand why a difference appears

Weather, operating load, schedules, and equipment condition can influence consumption. An informative evaluation separates these effects from the contribution of a control strategy and records how performance changes under challenging conditions.

03

Define the next industrial decision

The programme is intended to identify the settings in which further development is justified. A useful result should help a manufacturer understand the attainable improvement, the cost of achieving it, and the evidence required before changing live operation.
