Different systems. Useful questions. | A question to investigate
India retail pharmacy | A sharper view of stock, price and working capital
For a pharmacy business, money tied up on a shelf and a medicine unavailable when needed can be two sides of the same problem. A useful review must understand the shop’s actual stock, purchasing and demand, not simply display a national market forecast. For India, we want a proposed evaluation to begin with one authorised business and one decision its owner can act on.

The owner’s decision comes first
A pharmacist-owner, small-group manager or retail operations lead might be considering how to investigate slow-moving stock or repeated availability exceptions. The incentive is a better allocation of working capital and management effort. We would agree a narrow question, the product group and the decision deadline. The initial study would not recommend treatment, bypass prescription requirements or suggest that a commercial objective can override professional responsibilities.
Keep the legal setting local
CDSCO publishes the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and related official material (CDSCO, n.d.). A proposed pharmacy evaluation would need the local business’s licensing and professional context confirmed by the appropriate people. We would not assume that an online service, a physical shop and a distribution business have the same permissions. The evaluation is an operational proposal; it cannot itself establish authority to sell, supply or distribute medicines.
Price references need product-level care
NPPA publishes official ceiling-price resources by therapeutic category (NPPA, n.d.). Where a reference is relevant, the review would retain the formulation, strength, unit and date. The pharmacy’s own invoice, sale and stock records remain different evidence. We would not treat a ceiling reference as the price every business paid or as permission to change a medicine. A misleading pack conversion can make an impressive chart commercially useless.
A small historical study
We propose selecting one owner-approved product group and a fixed review period. Inputs could include non-identifiable aggregate sales, purchase dates, stock adjustments and documented expiry or return events. The first objective would be to reconcile opening stock, receipts, recorded movement and closing stock. Where the records do not reconcile, the output should show that uncertainty instead of producing a precise-looking recommendation from an incomplete stock history.
A public decision brief | An illustrative example
Open the question.
Inspect the reasoning.
Choose a business question, then look beneath its claim. See what a public source supports, what depends on the local setting and what a useful next step could be.
A US-facing medicines business, analyst or research team deciding whether a public spending comparison is meaningful.
The same medicine. A different denominator.
A spending figure becomes useful when the reader knows the programme, period, unit and exclusions behind it. Reconciliation comes before an attractive price comparison.
A proposition to investigate
A comparable question before a bigger chart.
A public-data brief could identify whether two measures describe sufficiently similar activity to compare. The proposed value is a traceable inclusion decision and a clear definition of the measure. No current price, negotiated saving, purchasing recommendation or live dataset calculation is produced in this specimen.
The reconciliation task is constructed. No records have been joined or analysed in this example.
What the next brief would contain
A decision someone
can commission.
- The decision
- Whether a defined public-data comparison is valid enough to commission.
- The comparator
- A second explicitly defined source with comparable scope, units and period.
- The evidence
- Source editions, medicine mapping, population, units, exclusions and reproducible inclusion rules.
- Stop or redesign
- Exclude comparisons when the denominator or cost meaning cannot be reconciled; retain the exclusion reason.
Constructed public example | Not PHARMORIS-generated software output or a measured customer result.
Keep this example briefCompare with the current ordering review
The owner’s existing report or manual process would be the comparator. Both methods would examine the same frozen sample and identify questions for review. Proposed measures include preparation effort, unexplained stock movements, classification agreement and whether the output helps the owner make a documented purchasing decision. A suggestion would remain subject to local professional and commercial judgement. The software would not place orders or alter supply during this first evaluation.
Avoid false demand certainty
Historical sales do not reveal every unmet request, competitor effect or seasonal change. We would record what is observed and what is missing. A product with low recorded movement may still have a legitimate reason to be available. The study should make that conversation possible rather than automatically label stock as waste. Any financial scenario would distinguish observed carrying costs from assumptions about future sales, returns or supplier terms.
What would justify continuing
We would stop if product identifiers cannot be matched, records are too incomplete or the owner cannot authorise their use. Continuation would require a useful operational finding and a manageable reporting burden. A later pilot could examine whether a locally approved process change improves the agreed measure. We would not turn one shop’s experience into a national savings figure or imply that NEUVIOR has established a retail network, customer base or distribution operation in India.

Discuss an Indian pharmacy business question
Bring the decision you need to make, the person accountable for it and the evidence you can use. We can then discuss whether a bounded PHARMORIS evaluation is the right next step.
